As a textile artist, I began by creating distinctive, colourful and interesting works of art based on adaptations of 17th century Jacobean embroidery designs. I love to use bold complimentary colours that produce balance and harmony throughout. My appliqué works are completed with great attention to detail. I strive for originality, technical achievement and creativity in every piece.
The challenge of creating visually interesting works using a Renaissance art form which appeals to today's market inspires my work. Keeping with traditional art forms, I have recently chosen to delve into a new theme of wearable art. To this end, I have incorporated my love of appliqué, textiles and fashion into distinctive capes.
The first collection "Northwest Coast Designs,"was inspired by the Northwest Coast Native art form and ceremonial blankets. The second collection, "Art Nouveau" combines the whimsy of Jacobean designs with 19th century designs inspired by natural forms and structures, particularly the curved lines of plants and flowers.
Designs for the wearable art capes were developed in collaboration with Kelowna, B.C. artist Judith Frigon.
